2011: The year of the Toddler

Vera took her first steps on Christmas morning. What a wonderful present! We've been waiting for this, and although everyone has told us "be careful what you wish for" or "you're really in trouble now," we're pretty thrilled that she has met this milestone. She's been cruising around the furniture like a champ for over a month, and has walked pushing her wagon many times. On Christmas morning, she balanced (without holding on) in a standing position for the first time ever, and just an hour later, she took her first steps. Every day since then, she has tried again and again, and done something "new" each day. Yesterday was the first time she "popped up" from a sitting position to a standing position by going onto hands and feet and then slowly standing up. Today, she let go of the chair and took 1 or 2 steps to the coffee table. Her first instinct is still to get down on all fours and crawl (she's a very fast and efficient crawler), but she's starting to take an interest in this new method of locomotion. Here is a video taken this afternoon... seven steps! This might be her record.
