Coach's first game

Today Joe had his first game. Here he is, jauntily spinning his whistle around his wrist, as only a coach can. He is assistant coach for fifths soccer. The School has a commitment to sports that guarantees a spot on a team for any student who wants to play. Therefore, they have 3rd, 4th, and 5th string for many sports.

It was a good game - our school (Hogwarts) had a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half, but our opposition (let's call them "R") managed to tie it up by the end of the game. Actually, an amazing effort by "R"; they were missing all their 9th graders for some reason, so they only had 12 boys, all 8th graders. We had about 25 boys, all 9th and 10th graders. This meant that Hogwarts had older kids, with more chances to substitute fresh players, while "R" never had more than 2 players resting on the bench.

All in all, it was a nice way to spend part of the afternoon - sitting out on the bleechers with the soccer moms, cheering on the team (and the exceedingly handsome assistance coaching staff). Here are some more pics:

Play on the field.

The ever-sincere "good game" lines...

Even the coaches do it!
